Abstract

Qualitative analysis of human serum proteins in 48 cases of different types of cutaneous tuberculosis, viz. lupus vulgaris, tuberculosis verrucosa cutis and scrofuloderma, showed, as identified by their relative mobility during polyacrylamide disc gel electrophoresis, no change in the basic pattern controlled at the gene level. However, quantitation of different protein bands through an automatic densitometer revealed a decrease in the albumin fraction associated with increase in globulin fraction - a characteristic of chronic infection.
