ABASS, MOHAMED and MAYAS, AISHA S. (2015) SUBSTITUTED QUINOLINES AS SYNTHONS OF POLYNUCLEAR HETEROCYCLES: AN OVERVIEW. Journal of Applied Chemical Science International, 4 (1). pp. 25-114.

The derivatives of quinoline are of chemical interest. They are easy to synthesize and susceptible to subsequent substitution and/or cyclization and ring transformation. The importance of derivation of quinolines to get other polynuclear heterocycles-containing quinoline is due to the fact that quinoline itself plays no part in fundamental metabolism while its fused systems e.g., furo, pyrrolo, indolo, etc. are best-known metabolites. This review covers recent use of quinoline derivatives as synthons of other polynuclear heterocycles.
