Abstract

In order to study the sex related differences morphological variation of a pistachio population of Pistacia vera L. (Badami-riz-e-Zarand) correlations between seeds and its seedlings traits, an experiment was conducted by selecting 67 seedling from a population. In each of nuts, kernel and seedling of pistachio 20 quantitative parameters were measured. Sexuality of seedlings was identified using RAPD marker. Results showed diversity rate is different in female and male seedlings. In males, stem length, crown diameter and leaf width were higher than females as well as chlorophyll florescence. Those seedlings with greater weight and size were male. The correlations between traits in male and female were different. In males, the relationship between nuts weight and parameters such as stem length and diameter and crown diameter were positive and significant (p<0.05) as well as leaf length with seed diameter while in female seedlings, leaf chlorophyll index (SPAD) was correlated significantly with kernel diameter and kernel weight as well as the relationship between seed width and kernel diameter with seedlings diameter (p<0.05). According to current results chlorophyll florescence in male seedlings is more than females.
