Abstract

Nanocomposites (NC) comprising silver particles dispersed on silica matrix have recently grabbed
attention owing to their advanced applications. Nanotechnology permits progress and manufacture of
silver-based composite materials. In the field of materials science, physical as well as chemical
characterization is a rudimentary process for clearing our scientific understandings of the Ag/SiO2
NCs. Numerous characteristic techniques have been applied in order to analyse the particulate
dimensions, crystal phase, elemental state, and more importantly various physical properties of
Ag/SiO2 nanocomposites. To assess the properties and application of the NC samples a combination
of different characteristic techniques is more valued. The main goal is to outline the methodological
perceptions for the characterization of the Ag/SiO2 NCs based on the application and growth of the
experimental methods. For this XRD, SEM, EDX, UV-visible spectroscopy, AFM, SPM, TEM, XPS,
and FTIR techniques are deliberated.
